Help with Holes

So I have a hole cut out into this Valve Cover, but I need it to wrap around with a lip. I hope the screen shot explains better what I'm trying to do.

Use plane along path to create a plane at one end the sketch your profile and sweep. Or maybe a simple pipe feature might work.

Something that might cause a problem is the line here

Are the 2 diameters different, is there supposed to be a join here or do you have a mismatch error?

Can you File -> Export your design and upload it here? Otherwise it's just a guessing game. One guess based answer could be:

  • Create a sketch on the flat surface
  • Sketch -> Project / Inlcude -> Project the hole into that sketch
  • Offset that projection to the desired thickness
  • Close the profile by using lines
  • Close the sketch
  • Extrude the profile to the desired length

Attaching the file directly here works even better.

Sketch1 is not fully defined.

I will attempt to do this when I get off work, but I'm not sure I'm that skilled but I will try.

Just copy my steps from the video. Pause the video as necessary and go one step at a time. After you've done it once, you realize that it's easy.

Thank you so much, worked perfectly. I have one last thing I need a groove cut out on this line, the line is the center line. How do i get it to cut a groove for like a gasket for example.

You will notice that I get errors when trying to Sweep the groove into the shaft opening. I don't know why. But no problem, I just use a Revolve instead.

Here is my version. Just for educational reasons I've removed your design and just kept the first sketch. You've used to many unnecessary steps and some features that are not needed. If you now would finally fully define your sketch by creating dimensions and constrains until all the sketch lines are black your design would be much more robust to changes.

Without getting into why few things should be done differently, one tip might be useful, to utilize geometry we already have:

Jip, I was thinking about this, too. I didn't picked this solution because my assumption was, that the given lines should be used.
