Help with curving a surface?!

I am working on some drawings to send to a machinest for manufacture. (Still looking for a machinest Smiley Frustrated Anyway it appears that I've got the device drawn up ok but I still need to put at least 2 flat surfaces on the cylinder. Tried to sketch and extrude but no joy. I'll need to do this again on another design so any suggestions are much appreciated. Additionally, how do I get the drawings saved into a format that I can print on a regular printer?

@Anonymous Have you tried right clicking on the features in the timeline and selecting edit. One note on editing from the timeline, sometimes the edit option is grayed out, if that happens click on the drawing area then select the feature in the timeline again and right click and edit.

Take a look at this help link and try working through some the tutorials, you've tried jumping in the deep end and found you can't swim so try the help and learn what you're missing.

I watched this video several times and will again this morning to see if I
missed anything but I don't see how it relates to what I'm trying to do.
Mostly I appreciate your help and your time.

Thank you so much for your time. What's strange is that I've done these proceedures but gotten different results. For instance, after using the revolve command, I am unable to select the section for the outer threads and create the threads. Also, when I draw the rectangle at the rear of the base, and extrude, it only cuts out a section inside of the outer shell. Were you able to look at what I did to this point to see where the problem is? I'll attach it to this email and then do the cuts on the base and send that one too. I'm hoping that this is the most current one so that you can see that I am unable to select the face to thread.

1. I think you have a slight angle in your sketch resulting in revolved cone rather than cylindrical face.

2. Set the Extrude condition to Intersection.  (rather than Cut)

I don't understand why the commands don't seem to work correctly on my Mac. I get some things that work correctly but show a different attribute window and with the last cuts it would not give me "All" so I just had to take the arrow and extend it all the way past the item to get the two flats. This is what I have now. Do you think I learned something? Do you think I need to do anything else for this product to be quoted and made? Other than the text or engraving part?

I think you attached the wrong file - there is not a solid body in the latest file that you attached - only the underconstrained sketches.

Ok, lets try this again. For some reason, I can't find the file and it says it's saved. This is going to take some time. I'll post it soon as I can find it.

I can only assume that you did not view the video in Post #26.

You have the same errors that were pointed out and corrected in the video.

Once those issues are corrected - you will want to create a 2D detail drawing of the model in order to get the manufacturing quote.

I wonder if there is a problem with the file. As far as I know I sent you the latest file. I did go in and look at #26 and followed the instructions to the letter. As far as I know the drawing is finished with the exception of adding text. I don't know how to ask what it is that you are seeing though. I'll try sending it again, but could you tell me what you're not seeing or what problems you are seeing?

I thought it would be obvious that I did follow the instructions from those videos since I was able to get the threads done on the outer section. I went back and looked again and re-did the camphers all at one time to reduce the features on the timeline. So here goes again.

Additionally, prior to sending the last email, I went back to the original sketch to check it. When I pass the cursor over the sketch plane, all lines turn black. Regardless, I tried using the parallel and verticle / horizontal on the lines again and it comes up with an error that says that the lines are already constricted. I don't see what I'm missing.

Sketch1 is missing a vertical constraint.

Sketch2 is missing multiple dimensions and geometry constraints.

If I add dimensions - the size of existing geometry does not match standard tooling/tolerances.

Great screencast, JD.   Could you expound on something you said- 'it's usually better to pattern a feature than patterning a sketch'?   Could you make the reasons for that preference explicit?
