Help! How to hollow out a solid

I am trying to make a make a mold and I have run into a snag. I need to shell out this solid and not loose any faces for an air tight structure. Id like the outside dimensions to remain the same but the inside dimensions to be offset. How can this be achieved? It seems that the shell tool is not going work.

You could try sketching a profile and then using Revolve around the vertical axis.

the only problem with that is I am using a complex shape for my work piece. (not shown here, these were demonstration sketches)

Given that for some reason Fusion requires removing a face for Shell, I think I would simply remove the bottom circular face and then Extrude a new cylinder to close it back up.

Oops, just read what you really really want to do (revised - true problem description).

Hopefully you have a face that is easy to remove and then replace.

Ok, this was a helpful tip. I may be able to split the body of my part and shell then re-assemble! Thanks!

@chrisleckie,

You can also try going into the Patch environment, deleting the faces you do not want, and then thickening the remaining face.  This seems to work nicely for me when a shell does not make sense (like for a complex flat part for which I need to quickly change the thickness, but have modeled as a solid).

This ended up working for me. I split the body then shelled it out then recombined it. Presto!

You can easily shell solids without removing faces...

Thanks for this video. I realized now that dragging a selection box over the entire part will not select the entire part - just the visible faces. Thanks for the tip, it works for me now!

KC,

I watched the screencast but I don't see what you did to make it leave all faces...

When selecting the entity to shell, I used the tree to the left to select the entire body. This way I don't specify a face but rather an entire solid.

If you're out in the modeling window you can accomplish the same thing by noticing when your entire part lights up (instead of a singular face). Since this is mouse position dependent and frankly jumpy as can be, I like to use the tree to be absolutely certain I have what I want selected.
