Having trouble reusing components in other projects

Hi,

I have been creating enclosures for 3D printing and wanting to set up a generic base and lid I can use as starting point for new designs but having trouble using pre-designed components.

What I have been doing is create a new project then select the previous project and insert into current design.

This works ok but I cannot make changes to the bodies. When I try to "Break Link" I get error "The selected instance has some essntial dependant instances"...

Also, does anyone know of a video tutorial that covers the workflow for properly handling this reuse of components in other designs.
