Here I selected six points on one of the splines and moved them down.

... makes a nice table:

Ha, that's a pretty cool modification of the theme! And a legendary furniture line was born...

I watched the video, and was thinking it was good for the guy who wanted to wrap a toroidal core with 4 turns of square wire, in another post, here:

Helical Coil On Toroid Stack

I will let him know about this thread.

Well I did one too like your number 2 of 3 videos in this thread. Very clever method!

I am trying to extend the method with parametric variables to make parametric mechanical cams. Ultimately I want to make a parametric twisted wire for transformers like the one in the thread I mentioned above.Twisted_Ring_1 v1.png

Here is a brief example of a mechanical cam (like the kind found in your car engine) driven by the parameters table with user parameters. The table drives the lines in the rectangular array of lines (like a bar chart), which in turn drive the cam wheel spoke lengths. I couldn't figure out how to dimension the spokes directly, because Fusion kept referencing the horizontal or vertical, rather than the simple length of the spokes. Is there a toggle for that?

Also, I used splines to connect the outer contour for both the cam and the top horizontal line in it's rectangular equivalent. I wonder what kind of curve is best there. (Splines ring with large excursions, straight lines leave flats, and I did not try conic curves yet. Seems like none of the choices are mathematically right, unless there is some stunt to smooth them more like a low pass filter to avoid large jumps and ringing. Maybe just pre-filter the parameters. I also noticed an add in to export and import parameters, which makes saving parameters easier, so you don't have to type so much.

I want to try using this kind of framework to parametrically drive the dimensions of the twisted ring in various ways.

Fusion 360 file attached below.

Please create your own thread for this as it really does not pertain to this anymore and you'll also get better response from a wider audience.

When dimensioning the spokes, with the dimension shown interactively, right click and select "Aligned". This dimension will then be the true length and not be constrined to X or y direction.

You can adjust the spline handles to avoid the "ringing". It might also possible that a CV spline is better suited to do this.

If you attach a file (in your own thread, please 😉 I can try it out and show how that works.

Your renderings are absolutely gorgeous. Any chance you share a video of how you put that together?

Bah. WHY won't sweeping an ellipse around a circle work? Because when you apply some twist angle, it fails, right? Well it doesn't fail if you reduce the distance of the sweep around the circle. Sure, it fails at a distance value of 1.0, but it doesn't fail at a distance value of 0.999. Of course that leaves a gap, but is there a way to get Sweep to work, now that we understand the limitation?

Yes. Ellipse swept around a circle. With twist. Took me about two minutes.
