Hello all, can anyone recommend a great way to import a gerber file or gerber to dxf for a circuit layout into fusion? My friend is using eagle and exported a dxf but not all the entities came out even when I imported it with each layer being repartee? Any suggestions would help out a lot here! Thanks all! I'll Kudo anyone with a suggestion.. Really need to get past this hurdle..

Perhaps you could use ecad.io to send the board to Fusion 360?

https://www.ecad.io/

How are you going about inserting the DXF file? Are you using the command from the Insert drop down menu or are you using the Upload command?

Thanks,

So would that program create the board too? Or can my engineer import the eagle into it and then export it as a step instead? Drop down.

I am not exactly sure what you are trying to accomplish .

What would be the purpose of importing Gerber or DXF files of a board layourt into Fusion 360 ?

Gerber files are used to manufacture PCP's. Usually thes gerber files are sent to a PCB maufactiurer to produce boards.

If you need a 3D representation of a board to include in a mechanical design in Fusion 360 then a better Export format is IDF. Eagle is not the best software if 3D export is needed.

Software such as Altium Design, or even Circuit Maker.

In order to be able to export 3D files from a PCB software the components have to exist in a 3D format already. Altium Desing and Circuit Maker allos wo associate a STEP file for each component.

If you want to include a visual representation of the silk screens and exposed copper pats, what I usually do Is that I upload the Gerber files (if I use Circuit Maker) or the Eagle .brd file to OSHPark, an let it process the board. The preview renderings of the baords look very authentic when used as a decal in Fusion 360.

@Anonymous - this doesn't address your immediate request, but given your interest I thought you might appreciate this recent blog post that talks about some of the things we're working on for ECAD/MCAD workflows.

Hey Plasma man.. Just trying to get a layout for some machining to be done with the dxf using a laser. I think my buddy needs to be using one of the programs you suggested. I simply want the 3d representation to come into Fusion and thought dxf was a simpler path..
