Fusion360 BRep to Mesh with smooting groups, explicit normals or weighted normals

Hello,

I come originally from 3dsmax but we use F360 in our pipeline too, because we work a lot with CAD data to bring customer products into our system.

Because NPower and / or the native 3dsmax built-in CAD to Mesh translator works kind of limited, because they fail very often and create bad meshes with a lot of holes instead of clean faces, we like the robust mesher of F360 which solves nearly all translations and produces clean and issue-free results.

The only problem that we have is:

When we move the meshes from F360 to 3dsmax via OBJ or FBX, we don't get any Smoothing Groups, Explicit normals or Weighted normals. But that would be essential for many operations inside of 3dsmax. Thoug there is the possibility to have smoothing groups created using face angles afterwards in 3dsmax, but unfortunately this only works to a very limited extent and is always somehow imperfect.

So I would like to ask if there is a way, how we can keep the smoothing of the nurbs patches from the BRep objects and store it as Smoothing Groups, Explicit normals or weighted normals in the converted mesh data, so that it can be saved with FBX or OBJ?

I would be very happy if you could help me. Thanks! 🙂
