Just wanted to let you guys know that we have a dedicated subpage in our blog for roadmap.  We updated the Feb date and April content yesterday.  We will refine April content more and more in the next couple of weeks.  Our intent is to keep it live and up to date.  In addition to it we plan to blog about details of the problems we are working on and have a discussion with you guys.  We are really looking forward to it.

BTW, check out Carl's blog on why we built Fusion if you have not already.

Any idea when the May update will be released?  I know it is early but I have been waiting for this one for over a year now.

We are looking at the last week of May.  Curious to know what you are specifically looking for in the May update.

Hi Gabriele

The What's New page lists the new & updated features and quality improvements in each release.

It can also be accessed from the Help menu within Fusion:

Whats New.png

More detailed information on the issues addressed in each release and any 'known issues' are documented in the readme.

Does this meet your needs?

The May release will have what we call distributed designs a.k.a X-Refs.  Can you help us understand why X-Refs is important in your workflow?

Thanks,

Prabakar.

Better organization.  I am a cnc machine shop so most of what I do with Fusion is make fixtures to hold parts.  Quite often I use the same parts in different fixtures, other than clamps.  A few advantages of x-refs for me are:

1 -  It is much better to reference a part than insert it so when I change that part I don't have to track down every instance in which it is used to make those changes.

2 -  Helps when creating a drawing of the part.  I designed a simple knob for a customer that I have to make cheap, so I will be making a fixture to hold 36 parts per cycle.  If I pattern the part then that pattern will extend to the drawing showing all 36 parts in my drawing.  To avoid this I would have to create 35 more components of that part, not very efficient.

3 -  Reduce the amount of clutter in the browser and timeline in multi-part assemblies.

4 -  It may make it easier to keep the related work of a component associated with that component.  When it is all in one file you must be diligent about making sure the component you are working on is active.  I figure the fewer components in a file the easier this will be.

Of couse there are more reasons to like working with externally refferecned files but these are the main ones that come to mind.

Thanks,

David

Makes total sense David. Thanks for sharing.  One more question...how many parts (unique and occurrences) does your assembly typically contain.

Thanks,

Prabakar.

Without common hardware typical assemblies are around 5-20 unique occurrences and up to 150 total.  I have one project waiting that is pretty big, maybe 100 unique parts but I know there will be changes so I really want to be able to break the files down into smaller bites before going too far with it.  The idea of the full timeline extending over 5 screens wide scares me!

Another added bit of complexity for me is for every unique part add 3-6 machining operations to make the fixtures, then add up to 6 for the assembly, for two operations on a vertical cnc mill with a 4th axis to make the production parts.

I'm really looking forward to the updated sketching engine, so I can start creating step by step guide multimedia for Fusion 360.

Honestly, I would not wait for that. Get started with content and then update where necessary. If I understand your intention correctly you are in process of setting up a learning system. The key here is to be quick on your feet and update the content quickly when it's out of date due to changes in Fusion 360.

Getting critiqued is a good thing. At least you've got something out there that can be critiqued on.

I remember awhile back that there's some development going for bolted connections, any idea what happened since then?

@prabakarm, Can you fill us in on the November update details yet?  They are mysteriously missing from the roadmap.
