Fusion 360 Thin Cut Feature Like SW

Is there a way to create a thin cut directly from an open sketch (line, spline, etc.) in Fusion 360? Similar to what can be done is SW where a sketch can be used to make a thin cut into the body. This would be helpful for creating curved cuts (feature made from a ball end mill for example). The sketch would be used as the centerline for a tool path. Creating a closed sketch (with rounded ends) is way too time consuming and more difficult to modify than a single line segment. Thanks, -Art

I am quite sure that this is not possible the same way how you can do it in SW.

I put an idea on the ideastation for thin wall extrude it would have the option for cut but I'm not sure that's the same as what you're asking for.

Thanks. That's the answer I was hoping I wouldn't get. Too bad. Maybe next release. Still hoping someone has a solution out there. It doesn't need to be exactly like SW just something even close would be useful. -Art

If you switch to the patch workspace you can extrude a surface then thicken set to cut.

Hi there, @HughesTooling's idea reflects also a particular workflow in Fusion that is helpful to know.

The sketch engine is not the fastest one so I would always try to keep the sketches brutal simple as possible

and then do more work via the model tools. For example while one can fillet in a sketch I would never do it.

It keeps the sketches simpler, easier to use, faster to calculate, and surface fillets are then features we can turn on and off

unlike in a sketch were we would have to remove and then extend the sketches back to the original shapes!

Thanks Mark. I was able do what I wanted to do using patch and thicken like you suggested. I guess it will take getting used to. Weird how you need to from model to patch environment. Would have been nice to do from within model environment alone. Thanks again. -Art

I fully agree that today the patch model space idea does not make produce a nice workflow anymore

it would be interesting to have a quick mode switch tool

ADs idea was to keep menus relevant and focused
