Been working on easy ways to do this....more to come later....

Here is a sample model with results. I could have done any pattern or design just chose this because it has been asked for so many times.

This took about 2 or 3 min to do.

Nope. If you watch some some of Phil's screencasts in this thread you'll know why 😉

@rocketmanthree

Well technically this is possible but each section would need to be done one by one thus making wrapping something to it very hard and in a lot of cases impossible. The best approach for stuff like that would be Blender or Maya then export as an obj and bring it in and convert it to a T-Spline then a solid.

I posted a wrap sketch to cylinder add-in that might also be helpful.  It's very basic but might be useful for some, especially if not using the sheet metal functionality.

This forum post has a couple of screencasts / comments about the add-in:

You may grab it from here: https://github.com/hanskellner/Fusion360WrapSketch

Cheers!

ARGH.  Stupid links...  and the post is locked and won't allow editing.

Ok, here are the correct links:

Hello,

As Daniel @daniel_lyall wrote, Phil @PhilProcarioJr made a video on how to do this, I only tried this from an example Phil posted, the ScreenCast came later but this workflow was his (very good) idea in the first place.

Kindest regards,

Ludo

Have you shared a tutorial on how you are doing this process of wrapping your pattern around a cylinder? Can you share the link?

More information...ok...everything you need to know to find out how I did this is on the Fusion preview forums.

@Anonymous made a post that shows the basis to create stuff like this. I already knew how to do the base for this before his post but it got me thinking since rarely use tools in the conventional ways I began testing "other" uses for the tools that are coming out soon and here we are. A very usable method to create geometry that was very hard or next to impossible before.

To answer your question yes I used the new sheet metal tools to achieve this completely in Fusion.

I hope this opens peoples minds to thinking outside the box to achieve their end goals instead of complaining about missing functionality all the time....

The Fusion team wanted to know our workflows to help them enhance the tools....I needed to be able to do stuff like this all the time as I rarely work on basic sheet metal designs. My designs create more advanced sheet metal forms so I needed to figure out a way to achieve this with the first round of tools they are going to be offering rather then complain about what is missing...

More to come....

Cheers

@Anonymous You guys have got to be kidding! There are several screencasts in this thread that show how o do this. Please have the curtesy to at least go through the thread and watch them, preferably after your done with all the tutorials in the Support and learning section.

It is perfectly fine to  ask questions, but it is disrespectful to those that help on the forum when you don't go through available material dan expect us to start with Adam and Eve.

Yes, there are some screencasts in this thread and more over here:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-design-validate/fusion-360-wrap-sketch-around-cylinder-and...

Note, now that there's sheet metal support in Fusion 360, folks are using that for wrapping patterns.  See the following:

Tacking a question onto the end of a years old topic, about something unrelated, is a terrible way of getting the answers to your question.  Go to the "design, validate & Document" section of the forum and post a new question there.

But first look at this recent thread and see if it helps
