Here is a sample model with results. I could have done any pattern or design just chose this because it has been asked for so many times.

This took about 2 or 3 min to do.

The tools are not in Fusion yet...well sorta not in Fusion yet...I will talk more about how I did it later.

What if you need surface details wrapped for things like hand grips...

@dieter made a post that shows the basis to create stuff like this. I already knew how to do the base for this before his post but it got me thinking since rarely use tools in the conventional ways I began testing "other" uses for the tools that are coming out soon and here we are. A very usable method to create geometry that was very hard or next to impossible before.

To answer your question yes I used the new sheet metal tools to achieve this completely in Fusion.

I hope this opens peoples minds to thinking outside the box to achieve their end goals instead of complaining about missing functionality all the time....

The Fusion team wanted to know our workflows to help them enhance the tools....I needed to be able to do stuff like this all the time as I rarely work on basic sheet metal designs. My designs create more advanced sheet metal forms so I needed to figure out a way to achieve this with the first round of tools they are going to be offering rather then complain about what is missing...

@PhilProcarioJr  that is fantastic!  Can it be done in reverse?  unwrap a developed surface onto flat? 

I ask because I am working on boat design, on wold like to easily unwrap the curved sides and decks onto a flat surface so that they can be cut as a kit.  Currently I am exporting to either exactflat or (gulp) Rhino3D to achieve this.

Looking forward to more amazing demonstrations of Fusio360's power.

IF you build your ship in the sheet metal environment then yes you could do that, but with the first round of sheet metal tools it would be difficult to build a ship....not impossible but difficult. Since there are no loft tools in sheet metal "yet" you will still have to use your current methods.

This will work on anything created in the sheet metal environment. The only thing it won't work on is organic forms, but because the sheet metal development team said "at some point they want to support such models" even that should be possible then.

Have you ever seen anyone use tools as unconventional as I do? The development team is all the time telling me I use tools in ways they never thought to use them.

Yes, particular this is easy to achieve. Couple of sketches for 3D-rail. Plane along the path. Sweep, Loft or Pipe. Mirror and Circular Pattern. Combine using Cut.
