File Revision is Gone

So, I worked on a file most of the day yesterday.  I finished it around 4:00 yesterday afternoon, and (thankfully!!!) exported a STEP file to share with my vendor.

I left Fusion open with the intent to fiddle with it a little more this morning.  Big storm came through last night, power went off at some point, so when I got here today computer was off.

I opened Fusion 360, grabbed the file from the list (most recent version is v6) and started in on it.  Realized quickly that it wasn't the right version, and now I have relized the version I have is from noon yesterday.  So, roughly 4 hours of work has evaporated into thin air.

The good news is that I have the STEP file which I can re-import and continue to play with.  But my confidence is very shaken with respect to putting time into a file and then having it go away.  I won't say I completely understand how the offline/online file system works, but my presumption is that everything is cached locally and uploaded over time.

What should I be doing differently (I know I clicked Save multiple times after the version I have now) to make sure this can't happen again?

Did you save the version? If you look at the versions in the item details in the A360 Dashboard, is the version you saved there?

I note that there are also preferences in Fusion 360 that will automatically save the design or save the design on close. Do you have these enabled?

When you fire Fusion 360 back up, it may have a crash recovery file available. See the below link for more information.

You may also check your local cache by working offline.

I hope these help. Let me know if you have any questions.

The latest version (6) that shows anywhere is the one from noon that is incorrect.  I did not pay attention to which version number it was last on yesterday when working on it.

I also did not notice any crash recovery stuff when I fired up Fusion this morning.  If the only notification is the small icon near my name at the top, it's possible I missed it.

I tried looking for crash log files as well as a local cached version but found nothing.  I suspect my PC went "to sleep," then the power went off and it shut off so nothing would have been active when it got powered off.

Should have also noted I'm using Windows 10.  Not sure that makes any difference in this case but I've seen some questions about it.

I have Automatic Versioning Interval set to 60 but have Automatic Save on Close turned off.  I am positive, though, that I saved this file before I exported the STEP file.  I use Alias enough that I'm OCD about saving before I do anything (Alias loves to crash).

Did you try working offline and looking at your offline cache?

Also, are there any files in the recovery location?

%APPDATA%\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\<GUID>\CrashRecovery

or

C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\<GUID>\CrashRecovery

The GUID will be different for each user.

Thanks,
