Feedback requested - highlighting solutions in forum threads

I'm looking to get community feedback on the possibility of highlighting solutions in a thread, similar to what's done on the rest of the Autodesk forums (example here).  Do you think something like this would help ease locating the solution, and as a byproduct, increase adoption of marking a thread as "solved"?  Or, would it just add clutter?  Fire away with feedback!

Here is how it looks on the A360 forums (along with the actual posted solution being marked green in the thread):

YES, I VOTE YES!

I got to say this is one of the best forum tools out there.

Also please alow editing one's post at any time. A day after post, 30 days a year ANYTIME one should be able to edit there posts, attachments as well.

Please improve the "How you find your own posts"

@Solar-emc - as for editing, about a month ago we gave the original poster of a thread the ability to edit their post indefinitely as a trial to see how it goes.  The one problem with editing posts in the middle of a communal discussion thread is that conversations can start to lose their context if users are editing posts that other users are replying to.  If this were strictly a Q&A site, it might be more acceptable, IMO.

Yes- that would be helpful.

One issue, though, is that sometimes a solution is not a solution. What I mean is that if a post identifies a problem in Fusion, something one just can't do, that requires an extensive workaround, or that doesn't work properly, and someone helpfully points that out, the problem may be illuminated, but not exactly solved. And sometimes there are multiple solutions. But as a means of highlighting helpful posts, yes, definitely.

@brianrepp

One suggestion that might help us all (which I understand might not be technically feasible) would be to give the option to add to or append your post, but not delete anything. Sometimes the ability to correct misstatements or provide additional information would greatly help clarity, and by one way editing you could do this without losing the context in the original.

Thanks for the feedback, Ron.  I believe there actually is an option to accept multiple posts as a solution, but similar to what you point out, there sometimes isn't ever such a thing as a solution to a particular thread.  I do believe there has been discussions with Lithium previously about allowing additions to a post (but no removal), but i'd say in the meantime the suggested practice is to notify the moderator who has no problem making edits to a post for a user (obviously not everyone will know about this though).

Yes, I think highlighting the solutions would be good.

@brianrepp

I think @daniel_lyall hit the nail on the head here and if this is implimented then your proposed solution would be much appreciated.

"have 3 option for solved

 1) solved with work around.

 2) partly solved

 3) solved.

and have it so the OP can remove solved if someone comes along and solves it when it is not solved this has happened a couple of times."

As to editing posts...I just want to be able to "ADD" to existing posts.

thanks @PhilProcarioJr there nothing worse than being told off for solving someone's problem when a hacker did it and it was not solved.

Add to is a good idea

There's already an option for this.

Hi @brianrepp,

I like the idea of highlighting the Solution AND giving the option for the type of a solution.

BTW, I don't know if it's only me, but it takes a long time for the forum site and for the posts to open. Sometimes it takes up to 7 seconds to open.

I'm 100% sure that it's not my internet connection. I was thinking, maybe it's because I'm outside the US and you don't have a cache server in Europe!

Cheers / Ben

Thanks @Beyondforce.  For the delayed loading, have you tried clearing your browser cache?  I was running into the same issue last week, and after clearing, it's been smooth sailing.

Yes @brianrepp, I have also tried it on my FireFox which I'm not using that often and the cache there is clean 😞

I've been meaning to make a post about the slowness of the forums as well, don't know if it's just in the UK. I use 2 different ISPs and 3 different computers, all slow. It's not just the forum the screencast website's slow as well. I remember a comment on the CAM forum before the switch to the lithium forum about how much slower the lithium forums are. Most pages on other forums open in 2-3 seconds here it can be more than 10, also get quite a few "This page is not responding, Kill page" errors. Time of day seems to make a difference so I don't think the problem's at my end.

I had to clear my cache a while ago because I couldn't log into the screencast form and didn't notice any difference in the speed on the forum.

@brianrepp

I'm seeing the same issue with the forums being slow and I have cleared my cache also. Both at work and at home on 4 different computers all with a very fast internet connection.

@brianrepp, so it's good that I brought it up.

I thought I'm going crazy! I have ordered a new internet connection and it will be installed tomorrow (not just because of that), I thought, maybe it will help 🙂

@PhilProcarioJr, I have been drinking a lot of coffee lately because of that. Instead of staring on the screen and waiting for the forum page to finish loading, I was taking a break making coffee.

No wonder my skin is so brown 😉
