I created a simple example to show the problem that I always struggle with. I learned to pattern features, because they allow changing parameters and have the patterning work correctly.
The obvious feature to pattern never works.
Looking at the attached model I created a new component (labeled with fail) and combine the block with a foot as the tool and joined. Then I attempt to pattern the combine feature and it fails.
Patterning the feature of joining the foot to the body.
After entering parameters the desired result is shown, but it is an illusion because the pattern doesn't work.
Compute type adjust - no error but nothing added to body
Compute type identical - no error but nothing added to body
Compute type optimized - error and all pattern information is deleted
Why doesn't this work?
My working process involves creating a negative of the feature that I want to pattern and doing it with many extra steps.
And then combine with an larger block to cut out the part I don't want. Then I pattern the combine feature doing the cut I can pattern the feature and get the result that I want.
