Anyone have any idea why this second mirror feature would fail?

Hi Eric,

That part doesn't look like it should have problems mirroring. Can you give some more information about exactly what you're doing, or record a video of your steps?

I'm experiencing problems with A360 at the moment so I can't download your file, can you attach the .f3d instead?

Thanks!

Indy

You just need to change the type of the feature pattern from "Optimized" to "Identical".  The "Optimized" type is for the highest performance, which uses some geometry tricks that don't work in all cases.  This is one of those.  "Identical" is the next step up, and handles more geometry cases.

See this screencast:  http://autode.sk/1pgVAFq

Hope this helps,

Jeff

How about this mirror failure?

Hi chmed,

It looks like you're just trying to mirror the cylindrical face instead of the feature. Try selecting the feature in the timeline when you're selecting what faces to mirror, similar to what I'm doing in the video below:

I'll try a different selection method but in this case it seemed to be caused by the vertical edge that was touching the cylinder.  The bottom image shows how I changed the geometry to get it to "take".  After moving the vertical edge the mirror worked fine.  But it seems to me that it should have worked even with the edge.

Aha!  Selecting "Pattern Features" for the pattern type and then selecting the extrude from the timeline did indeed work.  I tried something like that previously but couldn't get anything to select for "Pattern Features" even by windowing over the recess.  Selecting from the timeline is the only way that I've found to get the stuff to "select" for the mirror process.  So, is this is a bug or not?  If not then there should be clearer indication about why it's failing.  Also, if I have the timeline turned off, how would I select the pattern features?

Yes, I would say that this is a bug.  Fusion should be able to select features graphically.  You can see in this screencast that it is possible to do select features graphically, but it has not been enabled for the pattern commands, and it should be.
