Thought I would use F360 to layout the faceplate for an enclosure and I am struggling!

 

I have marked some socket holes on the left hand side of the faceplate, and need to mark out a cutout for a DB25 socket

on the opposite side - my problem is marking out the cutout/mounting holes relative to the right hand side of the panel?

 

The DB25 cutout is not rectangular, one side is larger than the other 

 

Even being able to draw a vertical construction line 16mm in from the right hand edge would be a start...

 

(I don't have much F360 experience)

Ok, here you go?

 

I am trying to add the cutout in the second image into the the sketch shown on the first image - on the right hand side (vertically) ?

 

Spaced in 16mm (centre line) left from the right hand edge?

 

Ultimate objective is to print a template to help me cut the panel out?

Dimension the centre point of the rectangle, 16 mm from left edge, 

the only hard part is the angle dimension, fillets last.

Sorry, I don't understand?

 

I want the new cutout to be 16mm from the RIGHT edge?

 

I placed the four socket holes and power connector cutout from the left edge,

I want the DB25 connector spaced from the right edge?

 

As the attached, very rough drawing but need to mark it out with the right hand

edge as the datum?

Draw a line between the centres of the holes, dimension it 16mm from right hand line.

 

i notice there are no dimensions in the pics, presume they are there when in edit sketch mode, you need them for what you are trying to do.

 

You can always down load a socket from Grabcad, use it as a cutter.

Yes, I tried this - I can measure between the construction line and the right hand line, but cannot adjust the

measurement to be correct - I have been in this position before, think I am doing something wrong creating

the dimension, but I will go back and look through the tutorials again as someone else has suggested?

 

Yes, when I edit the sketch I get dimensions, but when I draw a vertical construction line the length is 

dimensioned but not the distance from the right had edge?

 

I have clearly missed or misunderstood something...

Looks like I have a solution, perhaps...

 

Draw a vertical construction line,  use D = Dimension (not Inspect | Measure!) to measure distance back from right hand line (16mm)

 

Draw another circle on construction line and dimension to be the correct distance (16mm) up from bottom line and so on - for all the 

required circles (other mounting hole and corners of cutout)

 

Seems a dreadfully clunky way of doing it, would have taken me half the time in a CAD package so there must be a better approach I have

yet to discover!

D is used to define dimensions. Inspect->Measure is used to measure dimensions.

Given your lack of basic understanding I'd refrain from making statements about other CAD packages.

No worries. I apologize for being grumpy!!

 

Are you designing a complete device, or just the front plate and are you doing this more often ?

If so I’d approach this differently.

This project is not really a 3D model - it is simply to layout cutouts to
install sockets and switches in a (rather expensive!) enclosure so I do not
want to cut holes in the wrong place

It is a one-off, I am a model engineer and this is a case for my home build
CNC controller.

I started using Fusion 360 when I bought a couple of 3D printers, but
perhaps it is overkill for panel layouts

Fusion is perfect for that.

 

Depending on your CNC methods, you can either prepare the CAM right in fusion too, or you can right-click on the sketch in the browser tree and select Save as DXF to output a 2D file with the edges for your CNC controller software to use.
