Face to face measurement error

I'm trying to measure the distance between 2 faces using the shift key but instead of a distance, it's giving me area. It seems to only be the step files that are giving this error. Yet measuring the step file component itself is fine. But between 2 of them I get this. This is what it looks like.

My suspicion here is that those two faces are not exactly parallel.  I would bet that if you expand the number of digits you see, you will find that there is a very small angle between them.

Thanks. .007 degrees. I'm going to try to tweak. I had some holes that I referenced and looked at the xyz delta as a work around. I'm working with someone who uses KeyCreator and we've seen some compatibility issues. For example, the step files coming in .007 degrees off of fusions same work plane and view.
