F360 Copy and Paste to another drawing?

Hi guys, I'm catching on by all the help here!  I'm trying to copy a complex body and paste it into another drawing. I don't want to redraw this body (arghh!)  I'm sure this is easy but can't find it.

Thanks

Nelson

I just found out how to copy/paste within a drawing. I'll be using that lots more than the rotate/array thing elsewhere.

Haven't yet seen how to have 2 drawings, copy from one and paste it into the other.  That would be awesome.

Okay, I guess what I'm looking for is something similar to the BLOCK command in the ole AutoCAD   If I could save a body and insert it I'd be on the road again.

Thanks,

Nelson

If you can make what you want to copy into a component you can use Save Copy As to make a new part then insert that into another design.

I thought I had it but I don't

I know I can save a body as an STL.    I found an Insert menu with insert Mesh and it lists STL as those it can insert. I know I can save a body as an STL.  So I saved the body as an STL.    But I went to my target drawing and Insert now does Not have Insert Mesh.   only SVG (I want to insert body, not sketch)  wutup wit that?

Can you get a screen grab of the browser, I think you're trying to export a body. You might need to use make components from the bodies. If you end up with more than one component you can make another empty component and drag all the components you want to export into it.

You should be saving copies onto A360 into your current project, from there right click on the new design should get this menu.

Thanks Mark,

I tried that just now. No luck. Went back and converted the Body to a Component ant tried the same thing.    Same thing happens. The MOVE dialog comes up with the arrows as if to move the object I'm trying to inser,  but there's nothing there.

Yes Mark,

I convert bodies to components.  Then I save that drawing.  Then I open the drawing where I wish to paste it.  Then I right click and select Insert into current design.  The Move dialog comes up and I move it clear so I can see it.  I click OK and there's nothing there.

Sorry, I'm an idiot.

Thanks Mark.    It is there but so small as to be invisible.

That's all I need. This is a problem I CAN fix.

Thanks for helping the helpless!

If you right click on the design and select Open does the design open OK with the component you copied\saved?

It might be a good idea to make some real simple test files. Start a new design, create a component and activate it and just make a cube or something then Save Copy As. Then start another design you'll have to save before you can insert the cube, after the save try insert with the saved copy.

Glad you got it working. Something for you to experiment with now is editing the inserted part.

Select Open then edit the design and save

After save Get latest and it should update

Hi Nelson

After seeing this thread it seems it is possible to copy components between designs. Just right click on the component and copy then go to the design you want to paste into and right click on either the top component or a sub component and paste new.

Odd you would have to paste from a Component drop down, but for some reason this is what I get. I didn't have any components so made this into one, went to the other design, copied, came back and this is my dropdown...

Thanks for the link. I saw something about turning off the timeline to help with pasting. I searched for that and saw timeline control is in Preferences but I can't find that. At the bottom right is a way to turn it off I think but can I (or do I need) to turn it back on down the road?

My image is from the design I'm pasting into, I've already used copy in the first design, the Paste New doesn't show until you've used copy.

I've tried with and without the timeline and paste works either way. Here's a screencast as an example. http://autode.sk/1PJDUwh
