error when using shell function

Screenshot (3).pngHey, I've been stuck trying to finish my model by shelling the remaining side louvers. I keep on getting and error saying  "The selected body appears to have already been shelled" but it hasn't and I don't see anything wrong when I used the section analysis. Any help is greatly appreciated.

An exported STEP file is useless to help diagnosis your issue.  Export an attach a native Fusion model.  Open model in Fusion, select the File menu, then the Export command save to your hard drive.  Attach to a reply post.

Hi,

Without even looking at your file I can already see FIVE Yellow Flags in the Timeline,

any one of which may or may not be affecting the Shell operation you are attempting.

Yellow and Red Flags should keep you awake at night.

One of the Yellow Flags is a Shell operation. Is this the previously shelled body that may

be throwing the error?

Also WAY too many Move commands which I am guessing were almost all unnecessary

and is probably hammering fusion performance. Move should almost never be used to

actually move stuff around. Sure that is what it is for but you need to know EXACTLY the

way move behaves to see if it actually the correct thing to do under the circumstances.

Even some professionals get this simple command very wrong.

I will have a look at your file and get back to you.

Cheers

Andrew

Sorry, that file was from troubleshooting before coming here. Google search said to try exporting as a step file and reloading it which didn't work. here is the Fusion File.

Mistakenly posted the step file from troubleshooting. here is the Fusion file. Thank you, I'm just getting back into CAD and fairly new to Fusion.

You cannot use the Shell command for this cut.  You will use an Extruded Profile from a sketch on an Angled Construction plane to an Object.  I created one for you to show the process.  Model is attached.

If this answers your question, please select the "Accept Solution" on my post. If you need further help, please ask.

EDIT: I went back and completed the other cuts using a Pattern command.  It is attached as a separate model.

Thank you, I Appreciate it, i’ll take a look when I get home from work. I’m curious why it won’t work though because that’s exactly how I made the louvers on the top by using the shell function. Followed a YouTube video for it and did the same process on the side.

It could be because you have a lot of errors in your timeline which are for previously failed features.  The error states that is is failing due to the fact a Shell already exist.  When you have so many errors in your timeline it is hard to decipher what truly is the problem.  The answer is to correct all the errors, start over or maybe, as I did, just use a different process.

@fly1983281

This would be an excellent candidate for using Shell, but you have to know when and how to use the feature.

Would you like to learn how to do all of this correctly with step-by-step instructions?

(Warning: Would require starting over from scratch and following a precise set of instructions.)

Hi! There are multiple ways to create the opening. Aside from John's approach, here is another solution using Offset Surface and Boundary Fill. Please take a look at the attached f3d file.

Many thanks!

Using YouTube isn't wrong, its extremely valuable in learning all kinds of things. I will concede that there are also inefficient and bad tutorials out there too though.

Thanks to Johnsonshiue and jhackney1972 I don't need to start over but defiantly open for instruction on your method.

I didn't say using YouTube was wrong.

Attempting to do two Shell features on one solid body was most likely not in the YouTube video.

That is where you went wrong.

Agreed that using YouTube isn't wrong. But how do you, as a beginner, evaluate whether or not a YouTube tutorial is teaching you proper workflows or not?

You'll be in the right hands with @TheCADWhisperer's ! Your timeline will have fewer than 1/4 of the items.
