Eiffel Tower Project

Hi all,

I am trying to build a 3d model of an Eiffel tower and this is my approach

1. Creating multiple plane per each floor

2. Use loft to connect each plane to elevate the leg from each side

I have encountered the following trouble and see if someone can enlighten me

Loft doesn't seems to connect each leg with an arc like shape instead it will be just an angled straight line. My thought will be creating an arc rail through the corner or each floor but then how do I draw a line through multiple plane? (like the red line shown below)

Is Loft the right function be use here?

How can I create the steel column from the body? Should I extrude each cut section one by one or some tools will help me out

What will be the great function if I would like to scale up/down the whole structure in one shot?

No, I would make a spline for the red leg, and use your prefered material profile in a Sweep.  Do 1, then pattern the other 3,

Correct.

My thought will be creating an arc rail through the corner or each floor but then how do I draw a line through multiple plane?

Create the drawing plane for the leg, with 3 points, base, top, and Origin. then Snap the spline to each platform corner, will be a nice curve.

Is Loft the right function be use here?

No.

How can I create the steel column from the body?

If the beasn for the corner is same size, then Sweep, if it has a taper section, then Loft with red rail.

Should I extrude each cut section one by one or some tools will help me out

For steel beams around a platform, Sweep, if just one beam at a time, Extrude.

Scaling after finished, can't say.

Might help....

Here's my result. It can be scaled easily with Modify -> Scale.

For testing, I applied a User parameter Scale =1 in Parameters sheet. Each distance parameter was multiplied with Scale, and angles were set for the spline.

But changing Scale to other values than 1 showed a distorted geometry.

Perhaps someone can comment.

Hi,

If the rail is the problem ...

Try drawing the spline using 3d snapping, it will give you a nice rail like the red line you showed above between multiple profiles ( the less points, the better curve )

If you tried to 3d snap and didn't work, then go to preferences > General > Design > allow 3d sketching of lines and splines ( make sure it's checked )

Regards
