Easy question: offsetting mirrored sketch

Not sure why this is not working...it is very easy to reproduce:

-start a sketch

-draw half of a heart using splines

-create a vertical line either inside the heart bisecting it, or outside the heat (doesn't matter)

-turn that line into a construction line

-mirror the heart to create a whole heart

-select "offset"

.......and the heart in its entirety does nto show up as a loop...only either side....cant offset the entire thing at once...why?

Thanks!

Hello,

I have a workaround for you. I guess you are planning extrude the profile.

So I would extrude the sketch of heart and use offset on the extruded sketch. It creates new sketch and offset works fine.

does it helped you, do you need another workaround?

The complication when doing offset of mirrored sketch entities is something we will have to investigate.

regards

Martin

The shape I was trying to make was more complex than this, but I just used a simple heart as an example. Extruding up and offsetting does work, but the shape I needed to extrude up was some concentric hearts, which is more complex to do if I have to extrude and then down every time just to do an offset.

I ended up offsetting each side, and then using a conic curve/point to cap the heart off.....more manual than I would want but it worked. It would be nice, though, to have offset work on -any- connected loop.

Does the mirror command create two sets of points or something? When I hover my mouse over each half of the heart, they light up independently...yet the interior is shaded indicating that it is a "connected" loop...weird.

Nice debugging!  Actually, yes, Mirror does produce overlapping points in this case, which you can see with Select Other:

This is certainly part of the problem, but Offset has other cases like this where it fails - the loop selection doesn't follow the curve chain when it should.  It is high on our priority list to fix this.  Until then, your workaround is a good one - we apologize for that.
