Drawing Space - Extremely Slow

Hello all,

I've seen a few older posts regarding slow response times in the drawing space, but wanted to start a fresh post as the others are a few years old and I didn't find information there that seemed to help.

I spent most of yesterday trying to work my way through a single drawing package.  It's for a larger assembly with a lot of nested components, but nothing complex as the geometry goes.  The model timeline is on the longer side and contains a mix of linked components and natively modeled components.

The response time in the 3d model is generally acceptable, compute and navigation times are all reasonable.

The issue comes when creating a drawing from the design.  I've been using smart templates to populate my pages for me.  Working on cabinetry and interior elements, this saves me a ton of time as my drawings typically follow a similar format starting with top level assembly overview pages down to sub-assemblies and part drawings.

After the pages are all created from the template, I go through and delete the pages I don't need and start annotating the keepers.  With this particular drawing yesterday, the auto-creation from the template generated 162 pages, which, I know, is a lot.  In the end, I ended up with 36 pages for the final document.

In my experience, the drawing space has always had poor response times compared to the design environment, but this was a whole new level.  When deleting a group of 5-10 pages, I could walk away for 10-15 minutes and it would still be computing/refreshing.  Same with updating the model reference halfway through, another 10-20 minute wait time.  These were the main culprits, although switching to a page that had to refresh and adding balloons also had poor response times.  I don't recall adding dimensions or annotations to create and major lag.

In the end, I'm looking for any advise as far as model structure or computer hardware that can help speed up the drawing space.  I've gone through different posts and followed tips and tricks to reduce the demand on my graphics card, to seemingly little affect, but I am also thinking that the clock speed of my processor (2.5 GHz) plays a big role as well.

I've attached the archive files of the model and drawing.  I've also linked to my computer specs and included some benchmark results from this morning, which look better than they did yesterday.

See below, and as always, thank you for the collaboration!

Computer: MSI WS Series WS65 9TJ-003

      CPU: Intel Core i7-9750H - 80.5%
      GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 630 - 6.2%
      SSD: Samsung PM981 NVMe PCIe M.2 512GB - 213.7%
      RAM: Samsung M471A2K43CB1-CTD 2x16GB - 82.7%

Hi @ThreeSixtyMKE_Erich

Sorry to hear you are having trouble. I'll ask the team to take a look at your files.

While we do that, please can you have a look at this article, it will help you set up your dual graphics card.

Thanks @ClintBrown3D .  I set the graphics card a month or two ago according to the process you linked.

I look forward to hearing from you and the team!

Hey @ThreeSixtyMKE_Erich

I've opened the model, deleted sheets, made a model change and updated the drawing. The performance on my end is much better than what you describe.

I'd suggest checking the graphics setup again, as it may have changed, as Windows and Fusion have rolled out updates. It's also worth checking that you have the latest graphics driver for the NVIDIA card on your machine. Looking at the link you shared, there's a driver that is about a month old (double check that this is your actual graphics card before installing) https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/199657/en-us/

You can also try clearing your cache, this may improve the performance too.

Some good news, is that we are currently working on two performance initiatives internally, these will be rolled out over the coming months, with the first one coming in a few weeks. These updates will help with speed in general.

Thanks @ClintBrown3D.  I double checked the graphic card assignment earlier after your first reply.
I also updated the graphics driver yesterday in the middle of it all.

I will clear the cache and look forward to the updates in the coming months.

Does the clock speed of my processor that I mentioned in my initial post play into it at all?

1. From my experience, it has the most influence from the hardware.

2. However, complex sketches that are not fully constrained have a more negative effect.

Thanks @g-andresen .  Would you say the complex sketches even translate to performance in the drawing space?

To answer this, I lack knowledge of the derivation process.
