Dimensioning sketch not working properly

New to Fusion 360. Making first simple profile sketch of the handle of a screwdriver to learn sketching, dimensioning, and adding constraints. Blade will be to the left. Handle butt is to the right. Profile will be revolved to create handle.

Dimensioning the profile to match the small screwdriver handle. Width dimension of 5.5 mm added. Barrel section of handle is now, as sketched, about 12.6 mm. This needs to be increased. I have tried to change this dimension, expecting the added length to extend to the right. Instead, it extends to the left. Trying to constrain the left point of the dimensioned line, does extend the line length to the right, but the lower right point is, apparently, constrained not to move. This appears to be an example of a hidden constraint. My expectation is that everything should "stretch" or "contract" relative to the origin. This is not happening. Please explain what I am doing wrong. Thank you.

Not having the cursor coordinates displayed is not helpful, especially with the adaptive grid changes with zoom.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Fusion 360 community!

Could you record an Autodesk Screencast of the behavior so I can see exactly what is happening?

As for the cursor position coordinates, I see why you would need that functionality so I checked to see if anyone had suggested such a feature on the Fusion 360 IdeaStation, and I was able to find this post requesting just that!

I look forward to hearing back from you!

Cheers,

Thanks for the screencast!

Would you mind sharing a public link to the design with me so I can investigate the issue? Instructions for sharing a design can be found here.

I look forward to hearing back from you!

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for the response! Any time! I am always happy to help!

I took a peek at your sketch and I noticed that, while there are some dimensions and constraints, the sketch is not fully defined meaning that any sketch entity that is still blue can be clicked and dragged to form the desired shape. However, in this case, you already have the general shape, so we just need to constrain and dimension the sketch a bit more, to allow you to resize the sketch. I went ahead and constrained the sketch just enough so that that dimension can be modified without throwing the whole sketch into a strange shape. The attached screencast shows how I did so.

Hope this helps!
