dimension control not working when i press d

have just started to learn fusion ,i am a beginner trying to follow tutorials ,seem to loose the dimension shortcut when i press d nothing happens when used previosly  , tried  restarting 360 but still have no dimensions when i press d , please help getting very frustrated

I guess this got moved to the fusion 360 forum.  the shortcut d only works if you actively editing a sketch. are you?  some screen shots might help to under stand your problem.
