Designing timber cabinet - best approach?

hi. I have been asked to design a simple cabinet. I'm thinking that the framework will comprise of 6 identical upright pieces, and a handful of cross members.

I'm aware that this is achievable either by creating multiple bodies, or by creating multiple components.

If i were to go down the multiple body route, when I create the uprights they become 'upright1', 'Upright2' etc (even though they are identical. I fear this will cause havoc with a parts list.

So really, i would like to know the best practice?

You somewhat answered you own question. If you need an accurate BOM, then you need to work with component and component instances instead of bodies.

Hi Ben,

On YT there are some tutorials going in your direction.
For starters I recommend 2 by Patrick Rainsberry.

1. Cabinet making

2. Fusion sheeter

kind regards

I sometimes do this with bodies.  I will create and copy them as I design the structure, then once i settle on a design i will grab one of the bodies and kick it into a component.  The thing i kind of like with this is that I can then "Build" the design component by component which helps to ensure everything works like it should.
