Defining and carrying a cylinder from a non-flat surface

Hey all,

 

I'm working on a product design. The outline I started with was created by another designer in an RE app, and then I took it further from the base model.

 

I am trying to model a few drill jigs to add holes that my CNC can't reach. I have a hole on a non-flat face, and I'm trying to find a way to carry it through the jig, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to define it and carry that diameter through, since I don't have the original plane/sketch it was made with.

 

Any advice?

I have had a brief look, and believe I found an approach that works. You can take that axis you have defined through your hole, project it onto a sketch on the top face of your drilling jig, define a plane through the axis and projected line, and make a sketch on the resulting plane of a revolute profile which you can revolve to cut the hole in the jig. I have attached a modified file for illustration.

 

I'm not sure if this is in line with best modelling practices, as I'm still learning a lot of that myself, but I think this should work well enough.

The extra sketch is not needed.

Then angle of the plane through the axis does not need to be defined since this is a Revolution about the axis.

Beat me to it. Plane at Angle to the axis is a far better way to define the revolute plane too.

Thank you. This is the workflow I just couldn't quite connect in my head.
