Define baseplane for STL export

Hi!

I've created the red component as a part of an assembly, it is quite dependent on other parts and has to be drawn in the current orientation. The problem is that when I export the component as STL and import it in Simplify3D I would like to define the baseplane where I placed the construct plane. Is it possible to set a face to the XY-plane to a face of construct plane when exporting as STL?

Usually it is simple to rotate the STL files in the slicer but it would be so much better to be able to set the XY-plane before exporting, especially in cases like this with unknown angles.

Thank you in advance.

It's a one click operation in SImplify3d,

( Cntrl - L ) or Edit > Place surface on bed,

select a bottom face of the part.

Might help....

Thank you for your reply!

That is a solution, but I'm planning on sharing the files on Thingiverse and it would be nice to define these planes when exporting the STL files. It's also quite annoying having to rotate models in the slicer every time changes has been made.

Make a copy and Align it to the Origin plane, to be the Stl version.

Are you sure that works? The orientation doesn't change in S3d when I copy and rotate the component, neither if I create a rigid joint to the origin.

I think the STLs created in Fusion 360 use the original origin and moving the model in Fusion 360 doesn't change that.

I use Netfabb to align STLs.  In Slic3r you can load other STLs as modifiers and Netfabb makes it ease to align those with the main model.  It should work for your uploads to thingiverse.

That's also a workaround, but it really should be a feature in Fusion 360.

I noticed that it is possible to align it in Simplify3D and export as STL. Not perfect but it works.

I did this last week, had to check my steps,

My part was a body inside a component, copy and orientate it in the same manouvre, I didn't even place it on the Origin just alligned with it,

made stl. and correctly loaded into Simplyify3D.

Should work for you....
