data panel search syntax

Hi,

so far I was not able to find this information in forum posts or in the product documentation.

What is the syntax I have to use if I search for a document name (or part of a name) in the data panel? I tried a windows-like search like *nut* to list all documents that contain a nut in their name - but obviously this is not allowed.

Thanks

Manfred

Hi there!

I don't think you need any syntax. I just tried searching with the string and it seems to work.  See below gif for as an example.

search all.gif

Are you searching in the Data Panel or in your Dashboard?

Thanks,

Hi Nathan,

thank you for your response.

To answer your question: I searched in the data panel (like in your gif).

I watched yout GIF and tried out some own examples. I used "silly" names to be language-neutral (me german, limited english...).

My wish is to find all documents that contain the character sequence nut in their name.

So, in the search I entered nut.

(silly) document-name examples:

bla nut bli -> found in search result (=sr)

bla_nut_bli -> found in sr

nutbli -> found in sr

blinut -> not found

bla_blinut -> not found

bla_nutbli -> not found

To me, it looks like the search function has a (programming-) logic like this:

1) IF the character sequence is the beginning of the document-name -> find, no matter what other characters will follow (-> nutbli)

2) IF the character sequence comes after a blank or an underscore AND is ended by a blank or underscore -> find (-> bla_nut_bli/bla nut bli)

3) all other cases -> not found.

To be precise, I would also like to search for a combination of characters and digits (eg. nut4711) - so I mean "character and/or digit sequence", not just "character sequence".

It would be nice to know if my assumption is correct - then I would know what to consider when naming my documents.

regards,

Manfred

Hey,

is there any answer to this question? I really have troubles finding my parts using the search.

E.g. a part is named "RW_TA1000XXX_Something" and I search for "TA1000XXX", I won't find it. Another part that is named "Something (TA1000XXX)" is found by searching for "TA1000XXX".

Can anyone explain this? We really have problems to work with Fusion as a solution for business if we can't find our parts reliably.

Thanks!

Is there any progress on Search? This could potentially be a very useful feature for finding files, but currently it doesn't seem to find files where the search term isn't a standalone word in the file, or at the beginning of the file name.

E.g. searching CLAMP returns the file TUBE CLAMP. But then I tried another: for a file FIXTURE_Vise: searching "FIXTURE" finds it, but searching "Vise" finds nothing.

I have noticed one thing with the search bar...

Search Bar is only able to fine the names of files inside the Folder.

If we try to find a Folder name, it is not able to locate the folder.

It will only find the file name for you....

Thanks and Regards,

Rushabh Thakkar.
