Cut-outs in ipt component

For reasons of age, I have sold my company and with it the INVENTOR license. I want to use FUSION for a continuation of my private designs and have uploaded some ipt components created under INVENTOR to FUSION. When editing the ipt components under FUSION, I can extend them with extrusion, but I cannot insert cut-outs in the component.
How can I do this?

Hi,

please share a sample file and explain which section you want

File > export > save as f3d on local drive > attach to post

Hello Günther,
Unfortunately, I cannot insert the component in the attachment here: It is in .f3z format - and that leads to an error during transfer.
I wanted to use “Extrusion” to insert a round and rectangular section - it didn't work. However, with “Connect”, the construction of a round or rectangular body works.

Many thanks in advance for your help
Rudi

Break the links to the components. Then you can upload a f3d file.

The restrictions may be related to the linked components.

Hi,

1. if it is an f3z file, you can zip it and upload it.
2. it is also possible that you try to create a section in an imported component (chain symbol).
However, this is only possible if the link is removed beforehand by right-clicking > Break Link.

In the attached video I import a small Inventor Assembly and its Components and then do a cut on one of the components.  Once an Inventor file has been imported into Fusion, you can edit it just like any other component created in Fusion.

Hi,

first of all, thank you very much for your answers.
My working environment is as follows: INVENTOR license expired, all INVENTOR programs deleted from local computer, .ipt files in different folders, FUSION single user version for private use without license.
It is not possible to open an .ipt file (as described by jhackney1972): It gives the error “This file type cannot be opened”.
I have now found a (very complicated) solution:
- upload .ipt file
- Insert the .ipt file into a new solid
- Save this file
- Open this file with a double click
- Export this file to the local computer as *.f3z (no other FUSION format is possible)
- Unpack the archive (with 7-zip)
=> I get two .json files and two .f3d files
- Upload first .f3d file
=> Paste cut-out does not work
- Upload second .f3d file
=> Paste cut-out works
This procedure is very cumbersome, but at least I can continue to use my existing .ipt files.
I have attached the two .f3d files. If you have a better approach I would be happy to hear from you. Otherwise, thanks again for your support.

Rudi

You really need to revisit my video.  If you can upload an IPT file AND you are using a Fusion Subscription License, you can use the method I outlined.  I am guessing that you are using a Fusion Personal License which is the reason you cannot do as I showed in my video.

I actually use a Fusion Personal License - and then it can't work like that.
Thanks for the info
