Creating Step-By-Step Videos?

TheAmarand
Observer
Observer

Made a fun thing today in Fusion 360, and I realized after the fact that it might be nice to show friends how I made it.

I've seen a lot of folks on here sharing step-by-step design videos.

Is there a way to retroactively make one of these, after I've made something? Or is this something I have to manually turn on before I start working, and turn it off at the end?

How are these folks creating these step-by-step videos? Is it too meta to ask for a step-by-step video to show me how to make a step-by-step video?

Thanks!

What are people using for the click-by-click tutorials here in the forum?

I'm using ScreenPresso.  I haven't found anything that works as well as ScreenCast did.

Hi,

The best tutorials, in my view, are those where the entire process is done step by step and commented on.
For uncommented step by step tutorials you can add features like text or arrow callouts ... afterwards.

I use OBS Studio for recording (its free, open source software).

If you want to edit (cut, add intros/outros, fade ins and outs etc.) you can use a free version of DaVinci Resolve.

OBS studio didn't record the dialogs for me.  I use Windows on a dual monitor system.

What do you mean with "Dialogues"? Like editing a extrusion feature and the UI window does not show up?

I mostly create videos on my single monitor home computer these days. Only occasionally do I create short videos on my dual monitor work computer. I've not experienced this, but I believe I have seen reports from other forum users who also have experienced this frustration.

Yes, the temporary windows that open when the user input is needed are called dialogs.

It's too bad Autodesk didn't update Screencast.  There has been a significant decrease in videos on the forum and has made it harder to show how to do many operations.

Right, that s what I thought you meant. Are they not present on any of your two monitors. they might be hidden behind other windows. I ma just speculating, because when I make videos at work I don't see that. I run OBS on one monitor and Fusion 360 on the other.

Now that I think about it, its not a two-monitor but a three monitor setup as I have two external monitrs connected to my laptop.

That's true, but the reason might also be that folks are to inconvenienced to start using another tool. OBS is not as convenient as the built-in Screencast, but it doesn't require that many more steps. The video quality when capturing on high resolution monitors is vastly better than Screencast was .
