Creating a star from sketch

I was just wondering if anyone has any tips on how I could create a star similar to the one in the image? I have sketched the shape I want I'm just not sure how to go about making it into this shape. Any advice is much appreciated, regards.

Looks bit like a three profile loft for the raised section,

Same curve, on two planes,

with a sweep for the convex fillet, one and a mirror

and then circular pattern those with 5 legs, all on an extruded plate,

Might help....

That sounds crazy ahaha I only started learning a month ago so it sounds a bit foreign at the minute.

I should note its only the star I need, I have the brim bit around it sorted.

  1. Ok, you want a vertical sketch with the curve from the point to the Centre,

copy that curve both ways onto the flat plate, with the 3 pointed ends all touching.

You will also need a vertical sketch across the other ends of the curves, at the Centre plane, that looks like a church arch.

Use the Loft command, to loft from the point, to the arch, and then include the first three curves as Rails to finish it the way that photo looks.

when you get that far, pattern it Five legs, the centre intersection will sort itself out.

might be bit clearer,

I think I get you now, I will give it a try when I'm next at home. Many thanks.

My first attempt wasn't too far off. Think it needs a little more tweaking. Thanks for the advice.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

This is what I have so far, I just need to curve the edges from the legs to the main point.

First thing I notice is that your sketches are missing dimensions.

This thing is really tiny - is that what you intended?

Yeah, I've a bad habit of modelling things too small then scaling it up. There's no real reason for it to be that size.

Hey, I pretty much got it sorted now 😄 would like to learn more about lofting though as it seems very useful.

Well done,

Few things to say about Lofting,

all sketch end and intersecting points have to be projected, into adjacent sketches,

the connections should snap to the purple points,

Long curvy rails work better with Splines,

for trouble free results,

I think I would find a different way to do the Sweep feature as it took wayyyy too long to solve.

I've managed to recreate the star you did, but cannot for the life of me get the sweep to work it only goes around one point then stops.

It's more or less the same as how you showed me probably missing something though, But I generally think it's down to my inexperience of sketching in 3D as well.

Thanks for having a look it's much appreciated.

Not even close!

No dimensions in Sketch1 and no use of Symmetry relative to the origin.

I can drag the endpoints all over the screen - no control.

I didn't use any 3D sketches in my example - only 2D sketches.

I recommend that you set this one aside for a day or so and go through the Tutorials.
