Creating a sheet metal part on a curved object

I have tried for a few hours now and can't figure out how to create a 1mm thick sheet metal on this curved top surface.

No, the key is to select the profile in the sketch.

I see.
The workaround required when the width of your sheet metal varies is, that you have to trim it with a thickened body , and not along one vector, as I did before. This gave me multiple edges in my flattened dxf file.
