create a volume between two components

I'm trying to do a thermal analysis of, for this learning case, one solid box sitting inside a larger solid box. When I just move the smaller box inside the larger box, the simulation study says, not surprisingly, that the two boxes are interfering. So I need to remove the interior box volume from the larger box internal space. Model attached. Thx

Capture the position or Joint the small box in place.

Modify > Combine > Cut, one from the other.
