Create a Hex on a cylinder?

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello to all this is my first post on here and I am new to CAD/CNC so please explain all moves'n'clicks!

I am creating a male to female adapter on the main body I wish to cut in a hex so the finished item can be tightened up with a spanner.

I would normally machine this in the miller with 4th axis taking 0.94mm off each 60 degree surface of the 19mm shaft allowing a 17mm spanner to fit.

Extender 1 (without hex).JPGM14x2 - 60mm - 01.JPG

I cannot workout how to create the hex onto the main cylinder in fusion though, any help would be most welcome.

Is this a standard thread spec?  If so, just use the Thread command, but check "Modeled" to generate the actual thread geometry (what you show on the left hand side is what we call a "cosmetic" thread - just graphics:

Hi @Anonymous,

This is one way of how you can create the Hex around the cylinder:

Thankyou to Jeff first as your post answered my problem as to why it would not put the male thread on in drawing mode. Noobie error!

Super thanks to BeyondForce for putting up a video, just what I (and maybe others) needed.

Thanks to you guys I can say mission accomplished, see below
