Create a back plate for the attached sketch

Guys, Is there a way to create a solid back plate for the attached sketch? Hopefully I do not have to go into this drawing and delete the inside features.

Sure, here is a 1/16 inch thick back plate "attached" to the emblem.  You can modify the model using the timeline.  Model attached.

Mr. Hackney, Thank you for this. I do want to create the back plate to match the  outer outline of the sketch rather than just having a square plate behind it. Is this easy to do?

Simply window select all of FiremenMaltesecrossV2 sketch and extrude with negative distance:
