Crash while direct modelling

I found a fairly repeatable way to lockup Fusion while direct modelling.  It doesn't work 100% of the time but at least 50%.

Hi @kb9ydn,

Thank you for posting! Have you sent any crash reports to us? I checked our internal system but I was not able to find one. Could you try sending a report next time you experience a crash?

Does it occur with a specific design or with any designs? If this is a design specific issue, would you mind sharing a public link to the design with me? Also, screencast of the steps to reproduce the issue would be very helpful for us to investigate further.

Oh oops.  I forgot to click the insert button to add the screencast.  Lets try that again.

EDIT:  Also, no crash reports were submitted because Fusion locks up and has to be force terminated by Windows.

Thank you for the screencast! I will try to reproduce the issue and get back to you as soon as I have an update.

Hi @kb9ydn,

I'm trying to reproduce the freeze but I'm still having difficulty. Is it always associated with the Extrude command in the direct modeling mode? Also, can I get your system information?

As far as I've seen it only happens with the extrude command, and even then it doesn't do it all the time.  It seems pretty specific to the steps in the screencast above.

I'm running Windows 10 on a fairly new Pentium G4400 with 16GB RAM and 240GB SSD.

Thank you for the information! We have released another update last week and that contains a fix for some performance issues. I am curious if the update fixes the issue for you.

Also, from the information you provided, I have noticed that the graphics driver was last updated on 11/05/2015. Could you try updating the driver? Lastly, please enable "Limit effects to optimize performance" to see if that reduces the frequency of freeze.

I think I've found how to reproduce this 100% of the time.  In the screencast above, at 1:28, when you click on the handle and then drag; if you click and hold the left mouse button down for a second or two before dragging, it hangs up.  I've been able to reproduce this a few times in a row on my laptop at work, as well as my home desktop where I originally found this.

Hi @kb9ydn,

I'm sorry for my slow response. I was finally able to reproduce the issue. Thank you for the detailed description!

I was trying to find out what exactly is causing the issue but at this moment I am only able to reproduce it when I follow the exact steps you described.

The issue is logged with the development team and they will investigate it further. (the ticket ID is FUS-30270 for your reference)

Thank you for reporting the issue!

Yeah it's a strange one for sure and only seems to happen in a fairly specific situation, which is also good because people shouldn't run into it much.

Thanks for logging it!
