Copying via data panel hangs

If I right click on a design in the Data Panel and copy (I'm copying to the same folder - I wish it would name it with "copy" at the end or something instead of the same name)... it never completes the operation. I just have the swirling circles forever. It seems to work eventually, but it's not predictable. This seems to happen often (maybe always?) and I think it has happened to me in Windows too. Saving a new design seems to wake it up. Of course, then the new design has a swirling circle for way too long as well. It seems to just be a problem with the Data Panel responding/updating very slowly.

Hey Rob,

Thanks for the question! For the adding the word "copy" to the new version of the design, you may want to add this idea to the Fusion 360 Ideastation (see link below). I was thinking it would be nice if you could type in a new name in the subsequent "Copy To" dialog.

The current work-around solution is to right click on the design and select Rename to change the designs name.

As far as the performance when using the copy command from the data panel, there are two factors I can think of that may impact this, design complexity and internet speed.

If you are copying a design with many components or the design has complicated geometry,  this could increase the amount of data that needs to be copied and moved around. One quick thing you can do is to export an archive file of the design. This can give you some idea of the overall file size. How large are the designs you are copying?

What kind of download and upload internet speeds are you running on? I note that if Fusion 360 fails to uplaod a version, it will continue to attempt this over and over until it is successful. Next time you run into this issue, could you check the refresh button on the Data Panel to see if it helps with the endless progress meter?

If you are not aware, the work offline mode is also available for you to work in as a test.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,
