Draw a square in a sketch....

Select the offset tool.... make the offset to the outside fo the square...

The resulting offset will will have sharp corners....

So in the corners the actual offset is 1.414 times too big. Corners should be a radius around a point.

Other CAD software has mode selection to allow you sharp or proper corners on an offset, does Fusion have a way to do this woitout mannually drawing in radisuses and dimensioning them?

I use this functionality a lot to draw in smoth flow passages in a differnt CAD system....

Not being able to do this in fusion is a problem for what I'm doing...

Paul,

Can you create a visual of what you are experiencing and what you expect the results to be?

Thank you,

I think he mean that the offset should offer the possibility to round corner like other soft do:

Here is how the offset behave in fusion:

And this is how offset behave in inkscape:

the red path is the offset

The drawing above is exactly the situation...

With curves the offset is exactly offset distance from the reference curve....

With square corners it varies...

@pbreed,

When we parametrically offset the shape we measure the distance between the lines and not the endpoints.  The vector sketching software you mention has an interesting approach.  Please post your suggestion to our IdeaStation if you would like this solution to be considered.

I had the same problem. I solved it by giving the original square a very small (0.01) fillet on all sharp corners. If you offset then, you'll get the rounded square.

Been a while but is there a proper solution for this yet?

@filigranamaker

What are you designing?

How will it be manufactured?
