copy, paste, duplicate

Hi,

I think that copy paste doesn't work good in Fusion360.

Many software have a shortcut to make a copy. You can alt+drag(move) one body and you create a copy.

cmd+c cmp+v doesn't work (in Mac), I guess in Windows ctrl+c or ctrl+v doesn't work too.

Cut-copy-paste is accessible only through RMB menu, we need these commands in the toolbar.

Also I want to create a copy at a certain distance. Copy-paste in Fusion360 works as copy in place.

Fusion360 needs difference between copy and instance.

If I make an instance (or more) and I want to modify it (apply holes, fillets, etc.) all modifications will be reflected in all instanced copies.

Also (already requested) in Spaceclaim I can copy-paste a feature. I can select a fillet, ctrl+c, then I select an edge, ctrl+v and the fillet will be copied.

In Spaceclaim I can copy paste holes, I can ctrl+drag an hole and I can duplicate this feature at a certain distance.

regards

Maybe with the next upcoming update this bug will be fixed.

For me it is a hit n miss, sometimes it works, most times it does not.

But the context and main menu commands work.

Not quite on subject but the inconsistency there is maddening.

When I mirror or pattern something and then make a tweak, sometimes the tweak gets propagated, other times not.

Also, I don't know if this is a regression but I just recently tried mirroring a body and somehow both were linked and there was no way to unlink them (there used to be an easy way to do that).

Just guessing but I think this is one of those things where you're going for too much magic. If you can reliably predict what the user wants then, by all means, do that, but otherwise, at least prompt them with a few suggestions and let them choose (and let them break symmetries at some point in the timeline).

Making an independent copy of an object is possible by selecting "paste new" instead of "paste".

inagree though that copying/pasting can be improved.

Yes except what if you want to have a dependent copy but then break the dependency after making some changes, or (better) to have a partially dependent copy (as I find myself often wanting).

I believe that should be possible after the April update with design branching/merging.

In SolidWorks org in Geomagic Design I use comfiguration management to do exactly what you describe.

By the way in some cases it could be duplicate or replicate (1 action) instead of copy & paste (2 actions) : for instance on bodies > right clic > duplicate instead of bodies > right clic > copy + bodies > right clic > paste.

If you select an object, "command+C", click in space so that the obeject is not selected and then "command+V"

@promm thats true however Fusion selection and copy and paste workflow is really sub optimal because you have to make sure in the 3D view you have to select the body. You guys should improve that so that when I drag over it the body is also selected so you can copy and paste the body since selecting edges faces obviously cannot work with a solid to copy

This shouldn't be flagged «solution provided».

@Anonymous wasn't just asking for a keyboard shortcut, he wanted improvements to how copy-paste works
