Convert mesh to solid in free version…

So it was nice and simple to convert to brep then remove or combine facets in older versions. Now i cant convert my .obj mesh so easy and they want me to pay for this feature. Im not a very avid user of the program and i only use it to modify 3d print files and build random things for around the house. It really dont make sense for me to pay the high price for the full program for what little i use it for.

is there a work around i can do to take a mesh and convert it into a solid without facets?

1. Remove the facets.

2. The option to convert a mesh into a clean solid did not exist until the August update with its independent mesh register.

It does not remove facets. Delete just removes the whole face. Unless im missing something

Hi,

what I mean

1. Convert mesh to Brep

2. Delete faces in Solid mode

1. import .obj

2. Convert mesh under mesh drop down

3. delete facets in solid mode

4. Facets dont delete but the face delete

5. have no clue where to go from there..

it used to be as simple as right click on mesh object in list click covert to brep go to solids delete individual facets and view and edit solid object.

anyone else have any recommendations?

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

Which workspace are you in? Just did a test and it works as before if you're in the Solid or Mesh workspace, in the surface workspace it will just delete faces and not merge/heal (it has always worked like this in the surface workspace).

One more thought, did the conversion create a solid body (white cylinder in the browser) of an open body (orange)? Open bodies will not heal if you delete a face.

So the confusion is real right now i may have to attach a video. But yes that’s exactly what im talking about being able to do. But it legit deletes the face completely or does nothing. Is there a setting maybe that is off preventing this?

so here is the error i get when trying to remove facets

Error: The selected faces could not be deleted.
Ensure that faces are only selected from a single body, and that no duplicate or invalid geometry is included in the selection.

Please do not attach .rar files. .zip will do.

Apologies, i will use zip. Tonight i will attempt this again. But for some reason its selecting the face and not facet.

I will attempt to make a video showing my steps. But the way its acting i feel like theres a setting or something i am missing. 🤔

That was unneeded. Instead, you should have attached the original .stl file in zipped format.

We know what you are trying to do!

I don't think that most of the geometry is suitable to do that. What Fusion 360 does when converting a faceted, but seemingly flat surface into a single surface is, it looks for coplanarity within a given, internal tolerance.

It also needs "sharp" edges so it can determine the surface boundary.

The mesh structure of this object looks like it was originally modeled with a Sub-D modeler and as such has many areas that don't meet the coplanarity and boundary criteria.

Again, attach the original model zipped in original format. Then I can see what can be done.

I looked at the models In Blender and this geometry/mesh is not suitable for conversion into BRep geometry for several reasons.

With a good bit of manual clean-up the prismatic parts could be modified to get some of this converted into a T-Spline and then BRep/NURBS, but there are some parts of these meshes that I believe have been created with some cloth simulation that lack the usual Sub-D quad based structure. Those will have to be separated from the main object and then re-meshed into a quad structure.

There is not much in Fusion 360 you can do with this.
