Computer hardware for Fusion

I have an i5 7th gen, Nvidia gt1030, 16gb ram and a 120gb Kingston ssd with 60gb free space, Windows10

 

Bought this components specifically to work with Fusion about 2 weeks ago and do relatively complex projects with about 10/15 components and about 100 bodies on the largest components.

 

When requesting an operation like starting a sketch or closing it for example the computer holds for a few seconds like 5 to 10 seconds, the background of the objects browser goes black and then the message "Preparing for compute..." is displayed for about 3 seconds and then the updating graphics message is quickly displayed and the sketch opens.

 

Sometimes it stays much longer before displaying the "Preparing for compute..." message

 

My question is what is it doing during this phase before the "Preparing for compute..."? How can I speed it up? More ram? Should I disable the windows virtual memory since I already have 16gb of ram?

For one thing you should NEVER have 100 bodies in a single component. 

Search the forums for R.U.L.E. #1 and read everything you can on that subject.

Also your getting close to the limits of Fusion "IF" you have 1000 total bodies in your design.

There are many things that could be causing your slowdowns but I would start by adhering to rule#1 and turn off all fancy viewport effects.

These things will only help you a little though as Fusion in it's current state is not ready to deal with assemblies this large and although you might make starting a sketch faster by following these your still going to experience lag on assemblies like this....

ok, thanks for the reply.

 

sometimes its difficult to have fewer bodies, if I unstitch a complex solid body I easily end up with 2, 3, 400  bodies. I have had a few thousands.

 

Even so, what can I do to have fusion holding more complex projects?

 

More ram, a faster ssd, a better graphics board?

Honestly, no matter what you do, if you have a few thousand bodies Fusion will have performance issues, and until they dive into dealing with large assemblies this is going to be a problem.

Also having unstitched bodies that are one solid is a bad Idea, always keep things stitched together when possible. I would have to see one of your designs to offer more advise, but I am pretty sure Fusion in it's current state is not going to be a good choice for you.

You can try stitching things together and keeping the amount of bodies in one component to a min. 

I can promise you that have 400+ unstitched bodies will cause major slowdowns.

Also have you contained your history of each components body creations in it's component?

Are you working with the timeline or DM?
