Combine command doesn't work(failed to perform boolean operation)

I am creating a cam mechanism for some project, and I am creating some grooves on it because there would be a bar sliding back and forth. To create the grooves I stitched together a body. I have one groove but I want 6 of them all spaced evenly on the cam. I tried to create another body with the shape of the groove and cut it into the cylinder(combine command) but it didn't work. Can somebody please help me?

do I have to unstitch the cutting tool

No, your pic shows one cut,

Now you circular Pattern that feature set, count 6.

Might help….

if I do that it just creates more faces it doesn't cut the shape

instead of doing a circular pattern for the feature I just unstitched everything and did a circular pattern for the groove. Then I stitched everything back together.
