Change render orientation

Change render orientation

I am building a guitar, with the back of the guitar against the z-plane. When I go to render, the back, being against the 'floor', doesn't get any light.

I'd prefer not to have to reorient the entire model, but I'd also like to be able to render views from the back.

I saw this post - https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-design-validate/change-rendering-orientation-lighting/m-p/... - but that doesn't seem to work for me. I can't change the 'floor' nor can I create a turntable on anything but the current z-axis.

Is there a way to change this in the render settings? Changing the position of the lighting in the Scene Settings never reaches the back, only the angle from the top down.

Hi,

I may not fully understand your problem but hopefully this is helpful for you:

1. Invoke "look at" command in the navigation toolbar (at the bottom of the graphics canvas) and click the back face of your Guitar model.

2. Make the current view as top through the view cube at the top right corner of the canvas.

3. Then go to render workspace; the back face should be lighted now.

4. Check if this is what you want; if not, click the "Position" button in the scene setting dialog to rotate the lighting environment.

Thanks

That's pretty much it. I need to figure out how to get the spin on the Z axis correct, but that worked for single renders. Thanks!

You can also click the arrow next to the cube on the top right and set the current view as top to change where the light is shining.
