change order of components in browser

An example browser view is shown below, with several components. Is there a way to move components up or down in that view? I'm ok not having the design history if that helps. I post-process components (outside of Fusion) in a certain order and it would be helpful to have them appear in my custom order in the Fusion browser. Thx.

Unfortunately this is not possible at the moment.

If you turn off the timeline then you can reorganize components in the browser almost without limitations.

While the timeline can be re-enbabled, be aware that you loose the parametric history of what you did prior to turning it off.

There's no way of getting that back!

It depends on the references.  A component can't be moved earlier in the timeline than a component/body/sketch that it references.  If you have a particular order needed, then that should be the workflow you develop.

Hi Mr BrookNorton1,

... programmatically, it shouldn't be a big problem by adding a browser display filter. It is pretty standard practice, and undoubtedly, such a simple change would benefit not only discerning users. By implementing browser sorting by names, time stamps, categories, .... even I would pinch some profits.😏

Turns out you can reorder components if you remove the timeline. It would be nice if you could reorder and keep the timeline. I don't see why it should be necessary to remove the timeline, but at least it is possible.

Thanks. I thought I had previously tried that (removing the timeline and then reordering components in the browser) and it didn't work, but today it works. Will help a lot.

I found this. If I split a body, then change one body to a component (a rt-click option) then the new component is a sub-component of the one just split. Then, if I try to move the new sub component to somewhere in the browser, it fails and just won't move. But, if I move it to the very top level at the top of the browser, it does move the component, to the bottom of the list. From there I can move it wherever I want.

When you're in Timeline mode, references will block moving a component to a position earlier in the Timeline.  Changing to Direct Modeling mode removes the reference which means changing a component will no longer change components/bodies/sketches which referenced it.  In Timeline mode, that change will also change the references.

You may find your workaround will only work in a few specific instances.  It would be much better to develop your model in the order you need to process the results.

So you design your model (in what software?), order it in the way you want to process it, then redesign it in Fusion360 in that order?

No.  Design in Fusion.  You can plan ahead and/or you can move the Timeline.
