Change Material for Imported Objects

I have some parts that I imported into my assembly.  It would be nice to change the material of these parts so that I could get physical information from them.

All of the imported parts have their material set to steel currently, which is not what I plan to use.  I have been able to change the imported parts' appearance and color, but not the material.

Is there a way to do this?

The component in the screenshot are externally referenced designs or distributed designs.

The chain icons next to the component in the browser indicate that. To make changes to those components, first select Open and then you can change the material for the design. After the changes have been saved to that design, the other design will prompt you to update and reflect the change in material.

If you don't want the design to be "linked," you may also select the break link for that component. This will allow you to edit the component within the workspace, but the designs will no longer be "linked."

I hope that helps! Let us know if you have any questions!

Thanks,

Hi,

You can also change the default physical material from "steel" to other materials when you importing a part. This can be done in Fusion Preference->Material dialog.

Thanks

Opening the part to change the material worked fine, but it won't update in my assembly. I saved the part with the new material fixed, then closed out of the assembly and reopened it but it still won't update after many attempts. I never got a message to update the assembly either which is why I've been closing out and reopening to see if that would work. I opened the part back to make sure the material change was saved and it was, so why would the assembly refused to update the part?  It is all linked properly as far as I can tell.  This was an imported part from Solidworks - do I need to go back into Inventor to change the material and reimport to Fusion in order for this change to take effect?
