Cannot zoom -Pinch or wheel scroll

I have an issue which seems to have popped up recently. Not sure if it's tied to a recent update or not.

I can not pinch to zoom in or out - if it does work, it's erratic.  I also cannot use a scroll wheel to zoom on an external mouse.

It doesn't matter what I am working  - but I often select an object to move it into place, and zoom during the task - I can't do it. That's just one example. But the problem is there no matter which task.

I know that it is a problem specific to Fusion, as any other program the pinch zoom or scroll wheel works as it should.

I need to figure this out because it is really slowing things down...

Hi @scotty71

Thank you for posting and I'm sorry that you are experiencing this issue. Smiley Sad

To figure it out, May I ask you few questions?

What is your OS?

Have you tried another mouse?

Could you check your mouse driver update date? was is installed latest? (if window)

If possible, could you share your situation through screencast? here is how to use screencast by Beyondforce

It is it would be great to understand.

I look forward to your reply. Smiley Happy

Many thanks,

Apologies, I had slight tragedy hit the family (in the middle of Thanksgiving) and it delayed any response.

I need to double check that this is limited to my MacBook Pro, or I see it on my desktops too.

I can explain it as thus:  I cannot zoom in using standard system gestures on the Mac touchpad or with any third party mouse (and yes all software and drivers are up to date).

For example, say I am moving and object, and want to zoom in more closely -  while I am still in the move function - and it won't. I have to wait, wait and then maybe it'll let me zoom in.  It is almost as if FUSION does not recognize the input gesture from the touchpad. Because this also happens with it is just a blank workspace.

Screencasts won't work because you can't see the gestures on the pad.

it makes hard to move quickly....

Hi @scotty71

Thank you for replying.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.I understand that you can't zoom on Mac touchpad and other desktop (window) while moving object.

However the problem is I was unable to reproduce it  Smiley Sad so could you sharing in more detail to figure it out?

If you are using any third party mouse, May I know that name??

What is your window version?

Could you turn off this option? go to preference > turn off use Gesture Based View Navigation.

Have you tried using other mouse?

I'm not sure this post is the same issue with you?

@Phil.E, I'm so sorry could you take a look at this?

Many thanks!

@ahreum.ryu Thanks for the heads up.

@scotty71 I am the QA that works on these things. What you are experiencing is not expected. The November 9 update actually fixed a lot of trackpad problems for Mac. So we need some more detailed information from you to hopefully find out why for you this is still a problem.

It's not clear when zooming fails for you. Are you saying that it only fails during a command? Does it only fail during certain commands, you mentioned Move. Is Move the only command where you see this?

Also, be sure you are on the latest version of Fusion. 2.0.2541

Next, what is your OS? 10.12 or 10.11?

Also, you mention that third party mice also cannot zoom. So if you make a screencast we should be able to see the mouse wheel events and lack of zooming. That would be very helpful. It's also helpful to see what is going on while you are doing this. For instance, you will lose zoom while the mouse is over the dialog, toolbar, browser, or anywhere but the modeling window. So a screencast would show us this too.

Thanks and sorry for all the questions and trouble. You might represent a corner case that we did not test for, so this very specific information will be helpful to narrow down the possibilities.

Thanks,

Not necessarily  As I start to play with this I am unable to pinch (or spread fingers) to zoom. I mention that above (move function) because it's what comes to mind immediately and is the most frustrating moment for zoom to not work. But I can start a new drawing - have nothing in the work area an simply try zooming in and out with sporadic results.  Interestingly, if you stop, lift your hand off the trackpad and try again you can SOMETIMES get it to work. It is just so weird I cannot fully understand.  It is not limited to just one of my computers, it is a problem I see across all my laptops with trackpads.

Curious thing is that I have this problem regardless of what I use to control the cursor.  Third party mouse or not - the response of the Fusion software is not right. I do not have this problem anywhere else but Fusion. So, to make it easier, we can narrow our focus to just the touchpad, as it is the chief problem - that is I have the problem with or without a 3rd party mouse.

Also, be sure you are on the latest version of Fusion. 2.0.2541

Yes

10.12.1

I'll try to put one together today.

I just hope I have put enough information above to provide more insight.

thanks!

Hi.

I have the same issue with zooming but only when in drawing mode. If I'm not drawing the zoom works just fine. It has been like that for a long time, probably a year or more but now I'm getting so frustrated about it that I need to do something. I have tried several solutions like turning gesture view control off/on and changing performance settings but without luck.

I'm using MacOS Monterey version 12.1 on a macbook pro 16" (intel) 2020 and Fusion 360 version 2.0.12376.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
