Adding a V Score

I'm trying to figure out the best way to create a shallow V Score into my material. Do I make a small slot and then in CAM just use a V Groove bit and control the height?

Seems like there should be an easy way but I'm coming up empty.

Quite a few ways to do this but one easy way is to use a sketch on your surface you want to engrave and use the Project toolpath within the 3D toolpaths. Doesn't matter if your surface is flat or 3D it will project the sketch straight down in Z to the surface. You can control depth in the passes tab under axial offset or stock to leave, or manually adjust your height compensation at the machine.

Since this toolpath doesn't compensate left or right your sketch can be right on centerline and the center of the tool no matter the diameter, will follow on center. Just make sure you leave on "allow rapid retract" or your tool will rapid thru your material.

If you actually need to model the V we can go thru the process as well, its pretty simple.

Trace may be a better option for simple V groove where the groove isn't changing widths.  If it is changing widths, then Engrave would be the best choice.

p.s. You just need to create the lines (or curves or arcs) in a sketch.  You don't need to model them.  It's easiest to create the sketch on the model face, then add the lines.

Thanks guys, the Trace operation was the one I missed. It seems that it currently has a bug so I spent some time researching why the operation was working for me. This thread has the solution to using the Trace, http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/computer-aided-machining-cam/bug-in-2d-trace-new/m-p/6541138#M16589
