Cannot project body to sketch

I imported an model of a water bottle that I want to model around.  After inserting it into a file I try to project the outline to a sketch but I cannot select the item.

Why is this not working?

Because your bottle is MeshBody. You either need to convert it to BRep body (but it's impossible to do that for this model as it has more than 50k triangles) or use functions from Sketch->Mesh menu.

The problem is I cannot find any means to convert the body.  I think that's shown in the vid.

You can start from that:

Thanks,  I continue to struggle with this app.  I appreciate the help.  There's just not enough info available in the vids I've watched and there's always some next thing not easy to find.

Well, I don't get what you show.  I've no finger idea why but there's no mesh options showing up for me.  I think I'm doing whats in the vid but like most of this application, there's any number of gotcha's hiding behind the interface.  There's nothing reliable about this interface or even the forum as 2 out of three times, the post screencast option never shows up.

Hi @smallfavor,

To enable the Mesh options in the sketch dropdown you need to enable the mesh preview from preferences.

Yes, I have enabled this option in my settings since first install of Fusion 360 (I have an oddity to review and adjust all settings of every new program when I installed it Smiley Happy) and even not noticed that Sketch->Mesh menu can be absent from the application.

I have never understood the fascination of using stl planar faceted surfaces as a starting point for modeling.

Just give me the object and a set of calipers and perhaps a few photos....

Attached is a model that might be easier to reverse-engineer.

Thanks for your help.  I wonder why such a thing would need to be made unavailable in the first place.  Is there some performance hit when enabling the mesh detection?

I could have revolved the bottle shape easily enough, but I'd no idea the other method would be such a task. I was thinking it would be quicker - and it should be since all I needed was a profile to model against - place model project profile - done.    I'm amazed how many simple things have been left so complicated.  I've pretty much given up on making sketches of any complexity as all the unwanted the constraints make the whole process an annoying waste of time.   The Fusion way is to create primitive 'sketches and then apply features.  I get that to a point, but there are surfaces I want to have precise control over the curvature profile and the spline function is awful.

Preview Functionality - AKA - Beta - AKA - not yet ready for prime time - try at your own risk.

The first paragraph explains the Preview Functionality.
