Cannot Join Bodies with Extrude

I am working on a simple model of our shop.  I created the floor and walls with a sketch and then proceeded to extrude features.  I attempted to use extrude-join, but for one of the features, this did not work.  Fusion instead created a new body--despite the fact that I selected "Join".  I tried editing the feature--same result.  I tried rolling the history marker back and editing the extrude feature--same result.  I tried deleting the feature and re-creating it--same result.  See the Screencast for the issue.

In order to move forward, I created a new component with the walls, but this is not what I would prefer to do.  The file can be found here.

Hi @neljoshua,

If you want combine two bodies, then you need to use the Combine tool! If you want to Join two bodies, then you need to use the Joint tool.

Thanks.  I know that this can be done after the body is created, but one can (or used to be able to) extrude-join without creating a body and then combining it afterward.  I typically use extrude-join if I am adding features to a body or component and combine if I am working with separate components.

I used the extrude-join tactic with other features in this model without any problems, but this one will not operate in that fashion.  I am not sure why it is not working with this one feature.

In order to join two bodies via Extrude, the bodies needs to touch each other!

Those bodies do.  All of the "walls" in this model (and the floor as well) were created from one sketch.  If this was not the case, the other extrude-join features should have failed as well.

Hi @neljoshua,

I figure out the problem. You forgot R.U.L.E #1!

You have created the Floor inside its own component and the other corner Body in the Root component. That's why you couldn't Join those two bodies, because they were placed on a different components! In this situation, the ONLY way to fix it, is to use the Combine tool, like I'm showing in the screencast.

For the next time, DON'T for get to follow R.U.L.E #1!
