CANNOT APPLY PROPER BALLOONS TO DRAWING VIEW IF COMPONENT EDGE IS NOT TO OUTSIDE

I am running into an issue where if i create an assembly BOM table with parts that are wholly within the surrounding within the context of another part (imagine a plate with another part that rims its edge so that the first part covers the edge of the plate) when you go to create the table, it does not acknowledge the plate as a part.  It will create a single part BOM table that only calls out the part on the perimeter.  It does not allow me to add any other balloons with different numbers.  I tried to hack in a balloon with a "2" (create on and then use the move command to disassociate it from the original target) but that does not work as it is tied to the first (if i change one, it changes both).  not sure what the remedy is.  I would appreciate some help.

Hi telmon,

Currently the balloon item number is populated when the edge of the component is selected.  It sounds like in your case the two parts in this view are completely coincident, so you are likely always acquiring the edge of the "top" component in that view.

My first suggestion would be to suppress the top component using the checkbox in the drawing browser.  The original balloon will become disassociated because the component is off.  Now place the balloon to the still-visible component, and then re-check the first component in the browser.  Both balloons should now show separate item numbers and remain associated to the design.

If for some reason that doesn't work (it just did for me in my quick test), are there any features of the other component that you can point to?  In this case you'd likely need another view at another orientation so you could select the other component's edge.

Thanks,

Chris
